On a more positive note, check out this cool little gizmo from ambient devices. The Ambient Orb glows a different colour depending on the state of some data source (e.g. stock prices go up - orb glow green, stock prices go down - orb glows red). And even more cool: it's wireless and you don't need anything else to run it.
The downside: the wireless network it gets the data from is US only (stupid lone superpower).
