This article in the Sydney Morning Herald illustrates pretty well the negative aspects of the new media in Australia. In it, the authors (Jordan Baker, Cosmina Mariiner and Jonathan Pearlman) attempt to argue that a law against P-platers being allowed on the road at night, recently rejected by the NSW government, would have prevented the recent tragedy near Byron Bay.
The law may or may not lead to a reduction in the road toll, but the authors' attempt to manipulate the grief in the community in order to argue (in a most specious way) for the adoption of the law is outrageous. (At the risk of sounding a little HInch-like.) Those involved should be ashamed.
